Higgins Lake Boat Club was founded in 1947 by a group of people interested in promoting sailing and safe boating on Higgins Lake. A two story clubhouse was built in 1950 on property adjacent to Maplehurst Road on the east side of the lake.

In 1964, the original property was sold and five lots were purchased on Treasure Island. The first phase of the current clubhouse was completed in 1965 and the second phase completed in 1972.
